What is your identity?

Ephesians 4:24  and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Who are you?  Who are you really?  Many people, especially young adults, can't answer this question.  It's not that they don't want to -- they'd love to know who they really are.  The problem is they're looking in the wrong places for the answer.  Maybe you are too.  Identity politics is very popular right now and many are looking to find what category suits them. We focus on all of the wrong things, from gender to sexual orientation, or race, or political affiliation, what cause you champion, or what color your hair is today. None of those surface level attributes about you makes up your true identity.

Most sources of information (TV media, TikTok videos, etc.) are going to tell you to "look within yourself", but that always comes up short of finding any real answers.  To find your identity, you have to look upward, not inward.  Only then can you discover who you were created to be. Because…it isn’t about you.

God created you in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).  This means that you were made by the Creator to reflect His character and all that He is.  You were made to glorify Him by bearing His identity.  If you're in Christ because you've accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, you do just that.  This is your identity. Not what you look like, where you’re from, who you’re attracted to, or what protest you support.

Don't look for yourself by focusing only on who you are.  Turn your eyes to the One you made you.  Discover for yourself what His purpose was in making you.  When you received Christ, you took on His righteousness and you can live your life as someone who has everything He has.  He lives in you.  Identify yourself with Him. Study God's Word and find Him and you'll find who you truly are.
